Le Noir

After a successful run in 2013, blockbuster circus Le Noir returns this year.

When it comes to circus entertainment, there is a rather empty lineup in this country. You can wait for the annual festivals like Bornfire and Child’s Play, or keep your fingers crossed that a big world tour will bring a Cirque-Du-Soleil quality show, even if it’s only for a couple of weeks.

Le Noir’s 2014 lineup is similar to last year’s, but not to worry if you’ve been to the 2013 show. You still enjoy the favourites (the mad ringmaster is back to tease everyone) and some acts have even been subtly “upgraded” if you look closely and pay attention.

The highlight of the night had to be the Wheeloco team (Wheel of Death). Considerably smaller due to the size of the MBS theatre (and securely tied with remarkably strong cables) but still a staggering 4-storey height, Angelo and Carlos spun and rode the wheel admirably and confidently. There were certainly a few heart attacks suffered during several near-misses as the Wheel spun faster, and Carlos upped the ante by running the wheel with a blindfold. But when it was all over, the pair received a thunderous standing ovation from the packed crowd.

Even for the non-circus fan, Le Noir provides adequate excitement, lots of sexy skin, hearty laughter and cool tricks. And that definitely makes the ticket price a great bargain.

Le Noir 2014 runs from 7 – 22 June. Check out the exclusive interview with the Wheeloco team!
